This site is dedicated to building a historical record and overview of life in Brighton, Hove and the district for people with learning difficulties along with their friends, families and carers through the years.
The project , funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has generated an overwhelming amount of interest and so although the initial project has now drawn to a close we are pleased to say that we are going to continue with the Brighton Vault project to build up a fuller picture.
The key emphasis has been from the start of the Queen's reign in 1952 through to the modern day. The collated information is being redispersed to other organisations and societies involved with archiving, eg; Sussex Archive.
Our main focus has been around the people involved within the life of the local Brighton and Hove Mencap group, but of course society develops over a broad field, and we are just as interested in gathering information and artifacts and interviews from people involved in the wider community, especially organisations and individuals who have worked with or been involved in this sector of our society.
